Last year, I almost lived a childhood dream: becoming an actor. The day after my acting course with NIDA, I was invited by my classmate Zalfian to audition for a play. He didn't tell me much about it - just come to the Annexe in Central Market, and be ready to act. His instructions, of course, were a tad more simplistic than what I had to do. Firstly, I was to audition in front of Jo Kukathas, only one of the most well-known names in theatre. I was also required to do readings of a few different scenes, on the spot. And above all, the role I was given, gosh - it was for the part of a gay, 16-year-old schoolboy who spoke Kedahese Malay. Talk about a tough first audition. Clearly, I flopped. But I knew I was out of my league. And I was also immensely grateful for Zalfian for believing in me, and for giving me a chance.
